very excited to be bringing a Light Blues live session to Bass Coast Festival. it fits immaculately with this year's theme and it's a perfect setting - by the river @ slowtempo stage on the sunday afternoon.
First Feature-Length Film Composer Credit
The first feature-length film scored. This film is EXCELLENT and full of crucial knowledge that has real potential to shift minds and patterns towards better ways. So much heart and good energy behind this work, with a great feeling team and flow at every step of the way. This film is rich with lesser-heard history and context from the Qathet Area, featuring difficult and hard-to-face truths that are framed in a very generous and open way, creating tangible potential to help move the needle towards better understandings and more sober-eyed strategies around certain unfortanate current realities.
Full credits and details and stories behind the film on the official website - here.
Official release at HotDocs - here. and at DOXA - here.

A Dubwise Visit to Steppas Waves
Tell Me (Jungle Bootleg Remix)
"after sitting on this track for over a year, and it making waves on the dancefloor and even prompting a dm from david rodigon's son jamie, we're finally putting out the results of our very first musical meeting in the studio. a jungle bootleg edit of a beloved 90's rnb classic that we were both surprised had not recieved the jungle treatment yet.
a late bandcamp friday drop and heart beam out to the genre and all the old and new heads out there. ❤"

A Circle Within A Circle
" I had the pleasure and honour to work on an audio installation component, called "A Circle Within A Circle", with Marika Swan for this show. The far larger part of the show is all of Marika's incredible and inspiring and moving work, which is also compiled into a book and is also stunning. Marika's words and philosophies are a powerful integral part of the work and overall expression, some of which are woven into the audio component. The prints and woodblocks themselves are beyond words .. just worlds of continuously unfolding emotions and creation .. depth with no sense of end. "
The show is up until January 25, at the Burnaby Art Gallery.

Ruby Singh "Shorelines" Singh invites us into the embrace of this place through binaural recordings of rolling waves, the biosonification of spruce pushing synth pads, and bull kelp bioelectricity playing keyboards filled with the song of Orca and strings.

Tsimka Martin and Micheal Red "Trying" & "Trying High" Sustained notes sung by Tsimka, in her home territory, then lightly tapped and shaped into a long-form melody by Michael. With intentions for clarity.

AMBIENT/ETC - OUTDOORS *Thank You*
❤️ BIG MASSIVE THANK YOU ❤️ to all the people who showed up for AMBIENT/ETC OUTDOOR EDITION on sept 6, the land we were on and it's history and the natural life occupying it, all the artists who played, all the volunteers who gave their time, the vendors that showed up & helped build up the vibe, the people who took photos & vids, laine for the poster, modern biology for the headphones, hypha arts for helping coordinate and facilitate, the city of vancouver for a small bit of funding, and to the extended low indigo family & crew 💙✨
despite a (very) surprise burst of buckets of rain in the middle (that was not in the forecast the day before!) and some forest fire smoke in the air as well - it was a truly magical and special and memorable little time.
we are aiming to do more outdoor events like this and took some critical notes on some ways to improve a few things.
take care maybe we'll see you this saturday (oct 4) for another very special AMBIENT/ETC 😊
Music in 'The Good Canadian'
Honoured to have a track, 'Fog' with Tsimka, in an excellent new documentary from Leena Minifie & David Paperny. It's not an easy watch, but it's important one, especially for non-indigenous people who identify as canadian. the full film is easily streamed on youtube in the link below ⬇⬇

Ambient / Sound Wellness Mixs Launch
" now up on souncloud are the first two mixs (of eight) that have been used in a clinical setting by SABI Mind for over three years now. it has also been used by close friends and myself, many times over too ..over and over, as they were carefully designed for repeat use. to entrain to. to reach for as a reliable tool. for the purposes of meditation, clearing, unwinding, calming, relaxing, deepening, inner explorations & journeys, grounding, centering, focusing, resting, drifting, quieting, sleeping, transforming, transporting, healing and other related purposes.
they stand on their own as contemporary ambient mixs and also fully functions in the sound wellness realms. they keep the promise of holding space for the listener the entire time, without any blips or trips or artful overly expressive side-quests, just slowly and reliably modulating and evolving and unfolding.
the first mix is called 'CLASSIC abstractions' because, and because it's the first mix in the series we start at the beginning and honour the foundations and feelings of classic ambient music ..as we also abstract from them (staying present in the now, not just in the past). many thanks and acknowledgements to the absolutely perfectly executed music made by all the artist's in the mix - a decent handful of them being local as well.
the second mix is called 'moving SHADOW'. it digs a bit deeper into engaging with, and ultimately separating and clearing, shadow elements. it's not super heavy or intense in this way, it's somewhat subtle and the mix also still retains it's primary universal purpose of use - it's just one notch or two towards this specific goal (compared to the first mix). many thanks and acknowledgements to the absolutely perfectly executed music made by all the artist's in the mix - a decent handful of them being local as well.
more mixs in the series will reveal over time.
immensely happy to sharing these now, more broadly, with everyone. please enjoy, be well, and be good ❤️ "
Sound Journey Events..
A good amount of energy has been pouring into developing and discovering the best methods & practices for live-performed ambient(ish) journeys that also 100% function for sound wellness purposes. hitting the mark for people who want to immerse in compelling legit modern ambient / ambient-adjacent music *while also* fully serving the functions of what people call “sound baths” or sound healing and whatever other terms. both things at once. cross-pollinating and finding the common ground, together with efforts to disolve limiting notions (and aesthics) and barriers (you don’t have to be know anything about ambient music in order to enjoy it, you don’t have to dress a certain way or roll with any particular crowd ..and you don’t have to all soft smiles & quietly spoken to belong in wellness spaces either, and so on).
here’s some examples of some events and occarances so far..
Winter Solstice @ the Deli
this saturday we're doing something a little different. we'll have the room set-up similar to how we do for ambient/etc events, and conjuring a fully social environment for the afternoon with dj's frumlater and hasselhoff playing some vinyl & digital tunes (dub & downtempo and the like), while people chat and connect over some homemade vegan chai tea and other treats, plus our regular drinks & snacks available. pop by! that's part one.
part two is an intentional sound journey led by michael red, supplemented by what is sure to be a very powerful beginning by ritual purification and raj gill mixing in some elements & presence thru out. we'll have individual wireless headphones available for this, to supplement the room sound & to enable an even more immersive experience. these will be provided by eddy road, also bringing presence to the space.
part three will be the come down and resurface. background tunes with a bit more movement. extended hangs in the afterglow.
mieke jay is taking the lead with how the physical space feels & looks, and nora dawn is leading tea & snacks & drinks end while supplementing some other elements as well.
there are lot of intentions folded into this program. some we hope to carry on into future events. this is a beginning. this is also a return.
winter solstice 2025 moment

there's lots of coded lineage and embodied intentions & lived ways in this. some elements are knowingly raw and perhaps imperfect. it's a journey, an evolving story and a relationship. willingness to jump in, take a risk, to trip & discover & learn by doing, and refine & course correct along the way.
this event reflects this and is this. align & accept & allow the journey, and do seek for better ways .. which are all absolutely and definitely possible 🐳

Oro Azul music in an excellent short documentry
Thrilled to share that two Oro Azul songs are featured in the short documentary SHIRINGA: Fashion Regenerating Amazonia, a Collective Fashion Justice film, now streaming on Water Bear and extended networks.
The short film follows the Awajún people of the Peruvian Amazon who work with Caxacori Studio to create a bio-leather that supports their community, defends against deforestation, and offers the fashion industry a much needed alternative to the harmful animal-derived leather and plastic materials currently being used.
The film has collected several handfuls of awards. Grateful for the oppertunity.🌿
Tsimka & Michael Red with CBC in Port Alberni
In January 2025, Tsimka & I did a project put together by CBC Vancouver Island that had us play a show at the Capital Theatre and do a language & music workshop at Haahuupayak School in Port Alberni. The entire experience was beautiful and fluid and rich with meaning.
Many milestones achieved - our first concert with just us on the bill (and a full house too!), our first workshop we co-facilitated together (which went extremely well), and our first time with a conversation component to our show (which felt great and really helped give context and better meaning to what we do). Huge thanks to Haahuupayak School and the Tseshaht & Hupacasath Nations for hosting us, and for the dedication and hard work from CBC through coordinating it all.
Huge thanks to Haahuupayak School and the Tseshaht & Hupacasath Nations for hosting us, and for the vision and hard work from CBC through coordinating it all.
