In January 2025, Tsimka & I did a project put together by CBC Vancouver Island that had us play a show at the Capital Theatre and do a language & music workshop at Haahuupayak School in Port Alberni. The entire experience was beautiful and fluid and rich with meaning.
Many milestones achieved - our first concert with just us on the bill (and a full house too!), our first workshop we co-facilitated together (which went extremely well), and our first time with a conversation component to our show (which felt great and really helped give context and better meaning to what we do). Huge thanks to Haahuupayak School and the Tseshaht & Hupacasath Nations for hosting us, and for the dedication and hard work from CBC through coordinating it all.
Huge thanks to Haahuupayak School and the Tseshaht & Hupacasath Nations for hosting us, and for the vision and hard work from CBC through coordinating it all.
There are four CBC Radio Pieces that can be live streamed from their site at any time (that aired in February), here: PART 1 / PART 2 / PART 3 / PART 4
And some of the sounds recorded with the Haahuupayak School students is here on soundcloud.
the HEAP compilation is out today on Open Tapes.
money raised goes to a good cause, and extra proud to be aligned with the other artists on the release.
i made the track 'SoSo' between 15 and 18 years ago, and happy it's now seeing the light of day.
"Pleased to officially announce a large amount of my music has made it into the latest film, While the Green Grass Grows, from known director Peter Mettler. Over 17 minutes of my music, all as Souns, has been blended into the first two completed parts of this masterwork. These first two parts (1 and 6) are currently making their way through the festival circuit and have picked up a few nice awards so far.
thankful to have been included in this."

Oro Azul, Michael Red & Ultima Esuna, drops 'Water Seeds EP' on Mood Hut to a very pleasant response.
Reviews from Philip Sherburne, Bandcamp Daily, Resident Advisor, Ban Ban Ton Ton, Test Pressing below. The Boomkat and Oye Records write ups feel good, and feedback from peers and tracks popping up in mixs has been nice too. And a nod from the legendary Svebbe, plus a feature on the New in Electronic playlist from Apple Music.

Oro Azul also delivers an hour long dj mix of all originals, unreleased Oro Azul material + solo originals + remixs, for Pender Street Steppers' NTS radio show. this was the recording of the live set at the record release party a month earlier at the Deli. tracklist here and soundcloud recording here.
Full performance video just got posted, from the very lovely Active/Passive Festival. The album is nearly complete. This video shows a more simple version of the songs and energy, which was performed at the other summer festivals 2023 too. The New Forms Festival performance in December showed some of the developement and richer layers and details, bringing cues closer to what the album will fully reveal.
🔥 the first in series of events curated by Nalule of Neptune7 in collab with Low Indigo. Coming in with full and complete energy. TIX here, which has complete write up and details. follow Neptune7 and Low Indigo for ongoing info and drops.
"Seven suites of deep and sprawling sonic meditations built around ‘call and response’ improv sessions between Randy Raine-Reusch and Michael Red.
Slow and tempered recordings of Asian flutes, African harps, temple gongs and a myriad of obscure instruments from Randy Raine-Reusch's deep collection mutate and ebb into swirling gossamers of tone. Sonic incantations stretched and magnified further by Red's Sends. An otherworldly play between light and shadow worlds; at times idyllic and light-filled, at times dark and eerie– all engrossing. Dream-reality reconciliations weave between the spectral world of Michael Red's sound processes and the direct physicality of Raine-Reusch's playing. The tension across the pieces builds between the live playing and processing techniques, dutifully revealing a growing familiarity with collective transcendence through sound (bigger than the sum of its parts). Real-time interactive dream music.
Initially realized over the course of a few days in Randy’s instrument museum in Vancouver BC [December, 2014] 'ERAS' is made up of processed, and sometimes multi tracked, improvisations between Randy and Michael. Through these sessions Randy would choose instruments he sensed possibilities within, and Michael then revealed and sculpted these possibilities. Both resonating, sensing sonic structures, environmental nuances, and further worlds in each other’s art, all within the moment. Being present for each other, they acted on
instinct, trusting a first thought, trusting each other; committing, responding to that commitment, then mutating and letting go. Always moving forward, synthesizing and letting the living moment lead the way. The recordings were left to distill and mature for many years before the composers felt it was ready. With minimal judicious edits and a very light dusting of FXs, both careful to preserve the direct and intuitive process that permeates the recording, ERAS now emerges."
Deeper into modes of facilitating transformational sound, this project leaning more into the realms of relaxation and rejuvination.
Varied ambient & nature sounds through an array of speakers spread across the experience for Circle Welness Spa. Highly customized and scrutinized mixs of classic and contemporary ambient music, together with treated exclusive & found field recordings from nature. 2 hour program or 90 minute shortened version.

" i got the call 2 months ago while i was in the sierra nevada de santa marta, colombia. everything in perfect alignment. i’ve been working towards this for years..
i am scoring my first proper full-length feature film
working with a director & writer i feel in joyous alignment with - the emmy-award-winning Jason Mannings. his art and output is beautiful and world-class. our communication is excellent and fluid in the way that i fully want and need. together, there is constant learning and growth and full-spectrum depth and joy, clear vision, and inclusiveness towards the unseen and unknown (happily and honestly tracking our blindspots and areas of difficulty and challenge). all with great space for other projects and without a feeling of urgency or rush. fully reflective of exactly the way i want to be working now.
greatly looking forward to eventually sharing this with the world and also soaking in every piece of the process. it will take some time. it will take all the time it needs. it will be a few years from now, safe bet, so don’t “hold tight” just yet! ..much else to share in the mean time. love "
MASSIVE THANK YOU to More and More for including me in these projects.
more music-for-screen news coming soon as well..
very nice to have the remix of tsimka's owl in this short film piece. also because the collab album is past the half way point of completion. stay tuned!
"one of a current musical collaborations i have going on right now, which i feel so good and whole about, rich with depth and learnings and new/next/needed energy.
tsimka and i started with a simple remix in 2020. and now were past the halfway mark of working on a full release together (somewhere between a long EP and a shorter album). full of natural sounds and words and energy of the west coast.
friday aug 12th will be our first time performing together and first time revealing the sounds we’re been working on. there will be an opening solo set from me (contemplative soundscapes and quiet rhythms), then an intermission, then the two of us together. early evening sit down show, in the little outdoor courtyard of the fire hall arts centre (follow link for tix and more info). 🌻"
“thankful for the festivals that had me this year and everyone who came out. a few more dates to come and some recordings of certain sets to be released as well. big thanks AQUA LUCIDITY (sunshine coast), BASS COAST (merrit), SHAMBHALA (salmo), WONDERMENT (victoria), HARVEST (northern ontario).
after many months of filtering through the srchives - a good couple handful of older mixs from various eras have been posted to the soundcloud. some are re-posts that were missing for a few years after a somewhat accidental soundcloud purge, and some are never=heard-before mixs from the vaults.
this was in partial preperation for some brand new mixs to be shared. one of which has already gone up: true self mix

in bracken's words: "whenever I use hands I think of the creative and healing qualities they can have in our day to day…whether they are used in making music, gathering, or used expressively. In many of our dances hands are a key physical tool to tell the story or show transformation."
