Michael Red is a Vancouver based music producer, collaborator, curator and DJ. Founder and lead for Low Indigo (leftfield music label, community, events), ambient music artist under the name Souns, one half of Oro Azul with Ultima Esuna, one half of LA FE with Daniel Rincon, one half of Chambers with Gabriel Saloman, current very active collaborator with Tsimka, former collaborator and touring artist with throat singer Tanya Tagaq for over ten years, former curator for New Forms Festival for over ten years and the inception years of Slowtempo at Bass Coast Music Festival, the founding member of Lighta! Sound, and collaborator with a long list of other notable artists. Michael is recognized as playing a critical role in shaping foundational sound system & underground electronic music culture in Western Canada, as both an event creator and DJ. He maintains mentorships, knowledge-sharing and connection-making on an ongoing basis within his communities.

Michael’s music has been released on labels like Mood Hut, Isla, xpq?, Modern Math, New Kanada, Mutek Recordings, Debacle, Beacon Sound, Hotham Sound and Subtempo. He’s created music and sound design for brands like Louis Vuitton, Patagonia, Arc'teryx and scored the feature-length film Namesake. His music has appeared in numerous tv & film projects like An Untold History, the award-winning The Last Honey Hunter, and Hwuy’xwet Pune’luxutth. Michael's performed across Canada, Europe, Australia, NZ, Mexico, New York, on Boiler Room and has been written about in The Wire, XLR8R, Resident Advisor, and Vice.
